The Colombia star hopes the Portugal ace can fire his
side to many more trophies this season and says he will happily play
anywhere for Carlo Ancelotti
James Rodriguez says he hopes to play alongside Cristiano Ronaldo for years to come after making his competitive Real Madrid debut on Tuesday. The Colombia attacker started the 2-0 Uefa Super Cup victory over Sevilla in Cardiff, with Ronaldo scoring a goal in either half to seal Madrid's first trophy of the new season.
James is now hopeful Ronaldo can lead the side to further glory this season as the European champions aim for a clean sweep of titles in 2014-15.
"I'm very happy to have been able to make my debut with a victory," he told reporters in Cardiff. "It's great, but hopefully there will be many more titles to come than this.
"It's a great pleasure to play alongside a star like him [Ronaldo] and I hope I can do so for many years to come. I hope his goals help us to lift more trophies."
James was deployed in an unfamiliar role on the left of midfield against Sevilla, but the World Cup Golden Boot-winner says he will happily play wherever Carlo Ancelotti requires.
"I've played in midfield sometimes before, and although it's certainly not usual for me, I will try to do everything Ancelotti asks me," he said.
"I can play as a No. 8, a No. 10, out wide. Wherever I play I'll be happy, I'm sure."
James, who made his first competitive star alongside fellow summer signing Toni Kroos on Tuesday, added that his reception in front of thousands of supporters at Santiago Bernabeu was an experience he will remember for some time.
"To have such a reception is something I will never forget," he added.
