The former Nigeria U17 star will train with the Major League Soccer side till October after failing to make Manchester City cut
Nigerian youngster Kelechi Iheanacho will train with the American side Colombus Crew until mid-October after failing to make 25 man list for the 2014/2015 Premier League season despite impressing in City’s pre-season in the US.
Iheanacho was one of the unexpected stars of City's US pre-season tour, scoring against Sporting Kansas City and then AC Milan in Pittsburgh.
The 17 year old despite scoring a hat-trick in a behind-closed-doors game for Crew against Dayton Dutch Lions is not a candidate to join the MLS side on a permanent basis.
"It’s a guy who is training here for a period and then he’s going to rejoin Manchester City later in the fall,” Crew coach Gregg Berhalter told the Columbus Dispatch.
"He wanted a place to train, to stay fit, stay moving and we offered it to him.”
"He has good connections with Manchester City and he wanted to place at a club that he can train and I guess similar philosophies, similar values in soccer,” he conluded.
Iheanacho starred for Nigeria at the World U-17 Championship in 2013 in the United Arab Emirates, scoring six goals and adding seven assists while leading his country to the title.
